Chairman’s Message

Abdul Latif K.Al-Aujan
Chairman of the Board

Welcome to the Bahrain Family Leisure Company website!

Our aim at BFLC is to provide all our guests with a memorable dining experience and I was delighted late in 2013 when both Bennigan’s and Cucina Italiana were recognized for their excellence.

Cucina Italiana was awarded Time Out magazine’s “Best Italian” at their annual restaurant awards. The Italian category is historically full of tough competition and this is a great accolade for such a young restaurant, something we hope to capitalise on in 2014. Cucina Italiana also hosted its own version of Master Chef in 2013 and gained great media attention with numerous publications and TV involvement during the competition. Congratulations to Nadine Kanaan on winning the inaugural event, which we hope will become an annual feature.

Not to be outdone by its younger stable mate, Bennigan’s also picked up an award, beating off stiff competition to receive the coveted “Best North American Restaurant” award at the CitiBank/Fact magazine people’s choice awards. Considering the number of competitors in this category we are very happy that the management’s efforts have clearly been recognised by the guests across the Kingdom.

Of course awards are only part of a successful operation and I am delighted to report that BFLC has delivered a promising performance with growth in revenues, profits and earnings per share for the period ending December 2013. Although conditions for consumer facing businesses remain tough, our consistent focus on our guests, standards of service and value for money meant that the company was able to improve on the previous year and make strides towards a stable business model.

The BFLC management team, headed by general manager Peter Lyons, have made significant improvements in our day-to-day operation and are now concentrating on the next stage of our strategic plan by expanding the current operation. That expansion will include securing new catering contracts for Kazbah Catering, who currently cater for a number of prominent organisations including National Motor Company and Bahrain International School Association. Our new Casual Middle Eastern Concept Bayti is now open close to Bahrain’s Financial harbour and is already receiving positive feedback, we are confident this wil be a strong addition to the estate. The team are also working hard to develop a second Bennigan’s operation within Bahrain. Our commitment to expansion in 2014 and beyond will see BFLC, we hope, become one of the most recognisable casual dining operators in the Kingdom and beyond.

I welcome your feedback on any of our operations and our team looks forward to welcoming you in one of our outlets very soon.
